Candle Care & Safety
The Basics
Burn time
The first burn plays a big part in your candles burn life. When lighting for the first time, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container. This will prevent tunnelling and promotes an even burn each time you light the candle. This will take between 2-4 hours.
You should never let your candle burn for more than 4 hours at a time and let the surface fully set before relighting.
All about the Wick
Trim your wick to around 5mm before burning. This will encourage a more even burn, steady flame and limit 'mushrooming' and sooting.
A mushroom shape is quite common in cotton wicks after burning and can be trimmed with a wick trimmers, scissors or you can even pick it off with your fingers and a bit of tissue in a pinch!
Environment
Keep away from draughts and windy spaces. Draughts will decrease your burn time, cause uneven burning and diminish the scent throw.
You can maximise the scent throw by keeping windows and doors closed.
When your Candles nearing it's end
Stop burning with around 5mm of wax left to prevent the glass from cracking.
As the wax we use is non - toxic, you can wash your container out with hot soapy water and re-use!
Troubleshooting
Why is my candle sticking to the side in some spots?
This occurs as the wax is cooling inside the container. Part of the wax pulls away from the glassware giving it this particular look - known as wet spots. This is very common with soy wax - especially in winter or cooler climates.
Why is the top of my candle rough or uneven after burning?
This is caused when the hot wax in the melt pool cools and solidifies at an inconsistent rate. This is a feature of Soy wax and does not affect the performance of the candle
Why is there a white coating on some parts of my candle?
The term to describe this is frosting. Frosting is a natural effect of using soy wax and is unique to vegetable waxes. It is the natural wax recrystallising and trying to return to its natural state. All soy waxes frost and it's a sign that the wax is 100% natural. It doesn't affect the performance of your candle.
